Lovely Ephemera

I WILL BE ADDING A NEW CATEGORY to the website today: Lovely Ephemera.  I have to admit, I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to this.  The first paper show I went to I was smitten.  Head-over-heels in LOVE.  I have used many images for my business over the years.  Sometimes it is just the fact that it is a token of love or endearment that makes me pick it up.  The penmanship....the written word...was so very different long ago.

The baby announcements are some of my favorites.  And early birthdays.
I have found entire albums FILLED with every photo, pressed flower, sentiment,
every meal planned, doctor visit.....great detail.  I couldn't just let that sit there in the dust.

The sweet, sweet valentines from long ago.  They were so innocent.
Antique Valentine's like these are my favorites.  little works of art.
Die Cuts were used for scrapbooks long ago.  You find many complete
scrapbooks as well.  cut-out articles, recipes, news of marriages,
births, deaths.  I have so many that I have had to put most of them
in collections.  Only the rarest ones will be sold individually.

TO ME, it is saving loving memories, history.  I hope you will find
some things that will take you back to a time of innocence and
the propriety of the written word.  xoxooxxoo

Polished Look

History of cuff link fashion:

In one form of another, the cufflink, or 'sleeve button', has been a part of men's wardrobe's for over a millennium -- with royal families commissioning cufflinks to mark weddings or other special events for centuries and some historians noting the cufflinks' presence in ancient Egyptian paintings.
But if there's a story to be told about the modern cufflinks and cuff styles prevalent in men's wardrobes today, it should certainly start with a mention of Alexandre Dumas' nineteenth century novel The Count of Monte-Cristo.  Nowhere else in the history of western literature will you find a story wherein the cuff of a man's sleeve receives so much attention, or has had such an affect on 'real-world' menswear. Specifically, fashion legend has it that the turned back, french cuff was born (for all intents and purposes) after french tailors read a description of one particularly pivotal character in the book ('Baron Danglars') -- a man whose presence sparked great envy when onlookers "gazed on the enormous diamond that glittered in his shirt, and the red ribbon that depended from his button-hole". So sumptuous and handsome a description was this, that tailors immediately recognized how outfitting french society with such details could distinguish their clients and add a new chapter to modern man's costume.

I love the polished look of cuff links.  They are becoming one of our favorite fashion accessories at the shop.
These are our first pair listed, but I assure you, we have many more to list and are so excited to be able share them with you.  Fall is here and long-sleeved every day La-Dee-Da awaits.

These are in the Shop now.

Every-Day Life for a Chicken

I have three Hens.  Sophie, Tess and Ruby.  They are a part of our family here at the Beach in Southern Calif.  We all know they lay eggs, poop a LOT.  (Well,  maybe you don't know because of all the blog photos out there showing them in T-cups and settling into some beautiful patio cushions).  What you might not know is how much they love affection.... here is my Sophie letting me hold her like a baby.  She loves having her tummy and feet rubbed.

And here is Ruby taking a nice dust bath.  It is important to let them sun in an area they don't eat and use the ladies room...some nice, warm, clean dust does the trick every time....they lay on their sides and splash the dirt on each other and themselves...the dirt absorbs the oil to keep them clean.
This is one of their favorite snacks.  Oatmeal, chopped fruit, dried fruit and their own eggshells crushed and cleaned for calcium....yummy!
They also want to be invited to the party.  This was Sophie getting all of the attention on my mother in law's lap at a party we had at home recently.  People couldn't believe how calm she was and so content to be held.  She just looked around and chatted like all the other guests.... I love my girls.

I love original paintings....I love the idea of the heart that goes into them and the stories and subjects behind them.  Most importantly, for my new website, I love selling them to find a new home and be placed in that perfect spot that makes a room come alive.  This one is dear to my heart.  The lady I purchased it from said it reminded her of the scene in Titanic where Rose is getting her portrait done....I agree and that is where it has stayed in my mind.  When it goes to it's new home, it can have whatever story you choose.

                                                HOME SWEET HOME
Back Home last night.  Lots to talk about.  Must do laundry, walk doggies, pull some weeds -- how do they grow so fast?  Will be posting tonight about the fun, discovery and change in our lives to come due to visiting once again my favorite place to be.....possibly our new home soon!  :-)

I am taking a small break for the past few days from blogging...we have been on a trip taking our youngest to college.  Our nest is now officially empty.  A time of endings and great beginnings.  I thank God for the peace that I have had through this time of letting go.  I know that it is the way things were always meant to be.  I don't have that little boy anymore, and I will miss him and his REALLY Big kisses that would almost hurt my face....then his teenage trials and sometimes days with no eye contact....to growing into a young man, with his own life, goals and dreams.  It truly reminded me of the very first day of school.  Will he have friends?  Will he like it?  Only now, he is a plane ride away.  It is the circle of life and I am good with that.  All day we passed parents in the dorm halls with hangers, pillows, many of the fathers had BIG boxes for their daughters marked "shoes"....and there was a knowing look that we gave each other.  A look of "Can you believe this?  How did we get here so fast? "   It is truly one of those things where you say to yourself, "I can't do this, but I'm doing it anyway."  I think moving in day is for parents too....an opportunity to see that you are not alone and look how excited and happy they are....It was a GREAT day.  And now my Mr. and I get to start our new life adventure together.  I am a blessed and happy mother.
